Rooftop Bar
Opened in December under the steerage of set designer Lydia Marks, the head of the Strand makes clever use of a retractable glass roof to keep guests toastywithout marring the perspectives of the Empire State Building 4 blocks away. When things heat up, the panels will slide open to let in the breeze. Without a bouncer or door lists ( so far ), the bar draws a pleasant, non-touristy scene for a mixture of drinks both classic ( the $13 mint julep ) and vanguard ( the $14 Aai cocktail ). When the Strand hotel's restaurant which also features a retractable glass roof and a swing that seats fouropens this Apr, you can tack on raised bar food like Manchego mini-cheeseburgers and Monte Cristo sliders.
BlkMarket Membership
Paying homage to Berlin's classic, twenty-four / seven club scene, the Blkmarket Membership party goes on, and on, and on, well past sunrise and occasionally longer in hidden locations that are only disclosed to people who RSVP. ( regardless of the event's name, there is no membership needed. ) Dance-music followers eagerly pay $20 to $35 to go to a mixture of deep house, dubstep, and minimal techno that intensifies when headliners hit the decks around three am Founders Fahad Haider, Mehmet Erkaya, and Taimur Agha ( who daylights as the primary customer for the Halcyon record shop in Dumbo ) target the necessities : custom-designed lighting for each space ; a clear sound system that is loud yet never piercing ; and fellow D.J.'s scheduled for their creative beats, not the dimensions of their followings. The subsequent party, a showcase for Cadenza Records, is on March twenty, and as normal, the locale is a mystery. Just somewhere in the Big Apple of New York City.
